Rarity Calculations For Gear

The Singularity - UO free shard has done a rework on how item rarity is calculated within game.

Normally AOS items are tagged with a category for rarity that is based off of the number of stats that were rolled for that item. The problem with this system is that it includes stats that are completely worthless to players and also doesn't factor in how much of a particular stat was rolled for an item. In many cases, the highest quality category of "Legendary Artifact" is simply much worse than items that rolled with much lower quality indicators. Also, there is no hue indicator on items that provides an at a glance assessment of the item.

First, there are a number of stats that we don't recognize for calculation here: bonus resists, night sight, mage armor, luck, bonus to skills, as well as other fairly unimpactful stats that items came with. Also remember that this system only applied to armor and jewelry, not to weapons or talismans.

To help players more quickly figure out which gear is worth keeping and which is worth tossing out, we have added a new set of gear tags that come with hues and a quality percentage to tell players how close to the maximum possible values their gear rolled.

There are a total of 6 hued tags that an item can come with: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, and Mythic. Each one indicating that the item came with more "impactful" stats that have more than 50% quality. Str, dex, int, stam, mana, hits, hit regen, mana regen, and stam regen are done differently here. Instead, they are collectively summed together then given +4 and divided by the cap to determine how many total gear levels they attribute to the item. Also, these item levels will possibly be upgraded if you glyph the item and level it up to max.

The way the quality percentage is calculated, is that each "impactful" stat that rolls on an item will be divided by the cap of what can roll for that stat, then the sum of those quality percentages for every "impactful" stat is averaged. Also, these quality levels will possibly be upgraded if you glyph the item and level it up to max.

Take a look below at some examples for items from each of the 6 tiers:

Please remember that these calculations might one day change slightly in nature, and if they do, we will try our best to keep this page up to date with those changes.
